Overview
Translating to Old Castle in Italian, Castelvecchio in Verona is considered to be one of the best preserved military structures to have been constructed by the Scaliger dynasty in the past. The simple but powerful castle is an excellent example of Gothic architecture, featuring seven towers and four main buildings that were once surrounded by a moat. Presently, the castle is a museum housing a wealth of art collections, ceramics, ancient weaponry and other artefacts from the past. Visitors will also be able to see several famous paintings by Italian artists - such as the Madonna of the Quail by Pisanello, Holy Family by Andrea Mantegna and Madonna of the Rose Garden by Stefano da Verona or Michelino da Besozzo.

Designated prayer facilities in Castelvecchio will be unavailable for Muslim travellers but plenty of open space will be available to use during prayer times. It is also possible to visit a few of the mosques in Verona such as the Muslim Cultural Center and Centro Culturale Islamico El Falah Onlus.
