Marienplatz

Overview

Marienplatz is the central square in the heart of Munich; home to some of the city's old buildings, shopping markets and landmarks, the square is surely the best place to start exploring this vibrant metropolis. The square used to be a market place in the past until the market moved to a different location, yet the square has remained an important part of the city. The new Town Hall, known as Neues Rathaus is the building that dominates the square. The massive Flemish gothic style building houses glockenspiel, a hundred year old carillon, which is without a doubt one of the major draws. The old Town Hall, which was rebuilt twice, is another impressive building in the square. This very popular square, home to many interesting attractions, is a definite must-visit destination in Munich and should be on every visitors travel itinerary.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim tourists requiring prayer facilities will find a number of mosques in the city of Munich. Since the city is home to a sizeable Muslim population, living in certain areas, Muslim tourist will not find it hard to locate prayer facilities frequented by the locals in these areas. Tourist visiting the Mariemplatz could ask the locals for directions to a nearby mosque or get information at their hotel.

Halal Food

Although Muslim tourists may not find Halal restaurants at the popular square, they will be able to locate several Halal food outlets in the city of Munich. These restaurants serve an array of cuisines such as Turkish, Lebanese, Moroccan, Pakistani and more. Since most of these establishments sport a Halal sign at the entrance, Muslim tourists will find it quite easy to identify a suitable restaurant to dine at. They could also make inquiries at the mosque, regarding Halal restaurants in the area.
