Overview

The Marble Palace in Kolkata is an attraction that must not be missed. Built in 1835, by Raja Rajendra Mullick as a residence, this palatial mansion still remains as a residence for his descendants. It is considered as one of the best preserved monuments in Kolkata. Neoclassical in style, the famous mansion's name is derived from its beautiful marble walls and floors. Here, visitors will come across a collection of art from Italy, England, Netherlands, and other European countries, as well as antique furniture. To learn more about the works of art and the mansion, Marble Palace is best visited with a tour guide. The palace also has a mini zoo, called the Marble Palace Zoo, which is a must-visit for those with kids. Since it is private property, those interested in visiting the Marble Palace will need a special permit which can be obtained at the West Bengal Tourism Information Bureau.

Prayer Facilities

While Muslims visiting the Marble Palace will not be able to find prayer facilities within its premises, the city of Kolkata is home to a large number of mosques. Muslim tourists could therefore ask to be directed to the closest prayer facility to the mansion, when needed. Mosques like the Nakhoda Masjid, and the Tipu Sultan Mosque are frequented by Kolkata's locals and visitors.

Halal Food

Although visitors to the Marble Palace will not be able to find any eateries within its premises, they will be able to locate a plethora of restaurants in Kolkata, at which they could dine. Muslim tourists looking for Halal food in Kolkata will not find it difficult at all. Apart from the numerous Halal restaurants available, there are also street food carts and stalls which sell delicious Indian delicacies.
