Overview

When in Valencia a visit to the Mercado Central - one of the oldest running food markets in Europe- is a must. The lively market is the perfect place to see the locals out and about, shopping for their daily supplies and local delicacies. Located opposite La Lonja de la Seda, in an impressive Valencian structure, the Mercado Central or the Mercat Central de Valencia is popular amongst locals and tourists alike. Housing over a 1000 stalls selling a variety of items ranging from seafood and meats to fruits, nuts and spices, the bustling market is also the ideal place to hunt for souvenirs. While here, visitors must pick up some local delicacies as well as make it a point to dine at one of the restaurants available.

Prayer Facilities

There are no known prayer facilities at the Mercado Central. Muslim tourists can however ask to be guided to one of the several mosques in the city of Valencia. La Gran Mezquita de Valencia is one of the most prominent mosques in the city, but there are quite a few others located around the city, too.

Halal Food

Muslims visiting the Mercado Central will most likely not be able to find Halal certified food. Since there are restaurants found at the market, visitors will however be able to find seafood and vegetarian dishes at these establishments. Those requiring Halal restaurants will however be able to find a few in the city of Valencia.
