Overview
Located in one of Seville's most traditional squares, in the center of the city, the Metropol Parasol is a very unusual and striking piece of architecture and claims to be the largest wooden structure in the world. This modern icon, consisting of six timber parasols constructed in a mushroom-shaped lattice, acts as an umbrella for those visiting the Plaza de Encarnación, while also protecting an archaeological site. Although the project was quite costly and controversial, the Metropol Parasol has become a popular landmark of Seville. The four level structure houses an amazing market, an antiquariam, a restaurant, a concert area, and a walkway with panoramic views of the city's old quarter. Tickets need to be purchased to enter the open air walkway and to see the archaeological museum.
Prayer Facilities
While Muslim tourists will not find prayer facilities at the Metropol Parasol, they will be able to locate mosques in certain areas of Seville. Since the city is home to a sizeable Muslim population, tourists looking for prayer facilities will find mosques and prayer rooms in the areas with a large Muslim population. Tourists requiring prayer facilities could get directions from local Muslims when needed.
Halal Food
The Metropol Parasol houses restaurants within its structure; however this might not be Halal. Those choosing to dine here could have a seafood or vegetarian meal or choose to dine at one of the Halal restaurants in the city. They could get directions to these restaurants from local Muslims or at the mosque.
