Overview
Located near the Santa Cruz neighborhood, in the Parque de María Luisa is the magnificent Plaza de España. Built for the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929, in a renaissance style with typical local raw materials such as exposed brick and tiles, this circular structure showcases Spain's Moorish and Christian past in its design. Although visitors are not allowed inside, the Plaza de Espana is must-visit attraction, as the gardens and the sheer scale and grandeur of the façade alone makes its quite outstanding. The canal located across the building and the plaza in the center is famously known as 'Venice of Seville' and is a popular hangout area for locals as well as tourists. Visitors can also hire boats here and row around the whole plaza.
Prayer Facilities
Muslim tourists will not find prayer facilities at the Plaza de España, however they will be able to locate mosques and prayer rooms in areas with a large Muslim population. Tourists requiring prayer facilities while at Plaza de España will therefore have to ask to be directed to the closest mosque, when needed.
Halal Food
While Plaza de España does not house a food outlet, locating Halal restaurants in the city of Seville is possible. The city has several Halal restaurants which serve a variety of cuisines including Turkish, Lebanese and Moroccan. Muslim tourists will have to confirm the Halal status of the restaurant before dining. They could also get more information on dining options when at the mosque.
