Overview

A visit to Alicante is not complete without a visit to its heart and soul, the Explanada de España. This popular palm tree lined promenade is said to be made up of 6.5 million marble mosaic tiles and stretches around the marina from the Puerta del Mar to Canalejas Park. Because of the numerous attractions and activities that are found on and take place at the Explanada de España, the promenade is a popular spot amongst locals and tourists alike. Visitors to the promenade must make it a point to wander the palm tree lined street, stop at stalls selling local handicrafts and souvenirs, get a cup of coffee at one of the cafés, and take in the beautiful view. At the end of the promenade, visitors will find a monument to local artist, Mark Hersch. A popular meeting place for the locals, the Explanada de España is also the ideal place to people watch.

Prayer Facilities

There are a few well-known mosques and Islamic centers in the city of Alicante. The Centro Islamico de Calpe and the Alicante Mosque are two of them. While at the Explanada de España, Muslim tourists will not be able to find prayer facilities. They can therefore find a quiet, clean place on the promenade to offer their prayers or they could ask the locals to direct them to the nearest prayer facility.

Halal Food

Although the Explanada de España is lined with numerous restaurants, cafés and stalls selling a variety of delicious dishes, these establishments will not be Halal certified. Muslims visiting the promenade could therefore stick to vegetarian and seafood dishes or they could also ask to be directed to a Halal restaurant nearby. The city of Alicante is home to quite a number of Halal restaurants. Restaurante Aladdin and the Alhambra Restaurante are just a few of the several Halal restaurants in the city.
