Overview

New York's Central Park, considered to be the heart of the city, has been a designated national historic landmark since 1963 and was the nation's first urban public green space. Popular among tourists as well as New Yorkers, the beautiful park has an endless number of activities that cater to all types of visitors. Spread across an area of over 800 acres, the massive park with over 20 different playgrounds, numerous walking paths, carriage rides and rickshaw rides is the perfect place to enjoy a lovely stroll in the evening or just relax. The Central Park Zoo housed within the park features more than 100 species of animals from around the world and is a definite must-visit when visiting the park with kids. Located in the city center, amidst all the towering buildings, this huge green space is a lovely oasis from the concrete jungle that New York is. Other noteworthy features of the park include the lake, which is used for skating during winter and boating in the summer months, while the carousel too is a popular feature of Central Park.

Prayer Facilities

While Muslim tourists visiting Central Park will not find prayer facilities within the park, they will be able to locate a quiet area in the park where they might be able to offer their prayers. They will also find numerous mosques in the city of New York frequented by locals and tourists alike, such as the Islamic Cultural Center of New York and Masjid Aqsa.

Halal Food

Although Central Park is home to 3 restaurants and a number of carts selling snacks, scattered throughout the park, these food outlets may not be Halal certified. Muslims requiring Halal cuisine may have to choose vegetarian or seafood options or visit one of the many Halal restaurants in the city.
