Overview
Visiting the famous Gaslamp Quarter when in San Diego is an absolute must. It is a 16 block area of restored late 19th and early 20th century Victorian buildings and is San Diego's dining, entertainment and urban shopping district. Packed to the brim with restaurants, trendy shops and boutiques, theaters and museums and galleries, this famous district located in downtown San Diego is popular amongst locals and tourists alike. The area is also known for hosting numerous events and festivals. Shopaholics visiting the historic district must make it a point to visit Horton Plaza, a multi-level outdoor mall, while here. The Gaslamp Quarter is also full of bars, which means that it is best for Muslims to avoid visiting at night time.
Prayer Facilities
Because San Diego has quite a sizeable Muslim population, Muslim tourists will be able to find mosques without much of a problem. The city is home to prayer facilities such as the Islamic Center of San Diego, Masjid an-Nur , Masjid Al-Ribat Al-Islami and Masjid Omar. Muslims visiting the Gaslamp Quarter can therefore ask to be guided to the nearest mosque when needed.
Halal Food
As mentioned above, the Gaslamp Quarter is known for being home to a variety of fantastic restaurants and cafés. But while Muslim tourists will be able to locate many dining establishments, it may be difficult to find any that serve Halal food. Muslim visitors can therefore dine on suitable vegetarian and seafood dishes, or they can ask to be directed to the best Halal restaurant nearby.
