Overview

When visiting San Antonio with kids, an absolute must-visit attraction is the San Antonio Zoo. Said to be one of the top zoos in the country, the San Antonio Zoo offers so much to do and see for visitors of all ages. Situated in an old limestone quarry, this 56 acre zoo is home to 9,000 animals of 750 species. The zoo is known to be one of the first "cageless" zoos in the country, and is also said to house one of the largest bird collections in the United States. Visitors will come across a variety of fascinating animals at exhibits like Cranes of the World, African Plains, Africa Live!, Amazonia, Lory Landing; Butterflies!, Gibbon Forest and Hixon Bird House among many others. While here, visitors must also make it a point to take a ride on the Antonio Zoo Eagle, a miniature train, as well as the dazzling Zootennial Carousel.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims visiting the San Antonio Zoo will be unable to find prayer facilities within its premises. They can either locate a clean and quiet place outdoors to offer their prayers, or they can visit one of the several mosques in the city of San Antonio. The Islamic Center of San Antonio, Masjid Beit El-Maqdes, and Masjid Al-Ikhlas are a few of the numerous mosques in the city.

Halal Food

While food is not allowed into the zoo, it is unclear if the zoo houses any cafés or food stalls. However, due to the sizeable population of Muslims residing in San Antonio, Muslim tourists will be able to locate a number of Halal restaurants in the city. They can therefore ask zoo staff to direct them to the best Halal restaurant nearby when needed.
