Overview

Zoo Miami, the only tropical zoo in the United States, is a popular attraction that should not be missed when in Miami. Although officially named Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Garden it is widely known as Zoo Miami. What makes the zoo special is the fact that its subtropical climate allows the zoo to keep exotic animals from around the world in open air exhibits. Known to be one of the oldest and largest zoos in the country, its animal exhibits are spread across an area of 300 acres, which is only a portion of its entire facility spanning over 700 acres. In this free range zoo, animals that co-exist in the wild are grouped together in the same exhibit while others are separated only by a mote. Aside from featuring exotic creatures from Asia, Africa and Australia, the zoo also has several fun activities for children and families to enjoy, like feeding the giraffes, riding a camel and more. Those visiting the zoo should definitely come prepared to walk as Zoo Miami has much to explore, however a convenient way to see the zoo would be by 2 or 4 seat bicycle carriage, which can be rented at the entrance.

Prayer Facilities

Zoo Miami is not known to have prayer facilities within its premises; however Muslim visitors might be able to locate a clean and quiet area to pray within the zoo. They will also be able to find a number of mosques and Islamic centers in the city of Miami. The Miami Beach Mosque and Shamsuddin Masjid are two prominent mosques in the city, frequented by locals and tourists alike.

Halal Food

Zoo Miami offers its visitors a number of dining options; while Muslim tourists may not find Halal cuisine at these food outlets they will be able to find vegetarian options. Muslim tourists will also be able to locate Halal restaurants in the city of Miami serving a range of cuisines such as, Mediterranean, Turkish, Middle Eastern and more.
