Overview

A visit to the city of Edinburgh is incomplete without a visit to Edinburgh Castle. It is one of the top attractions in the UK, the city's most famous landmark and a world famous icon. Overlooking the Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh's city centre, this popular castle offers a variety of things to do and see. With parts of the castle, such as St Margaret's Chapel, dating back to the 12th century, the architectural elements found here are simply stunning. Visitors will come across the crown jewels, the "Honours of Scotland", the Stone of Destiny, the Castle Vaults, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg; which is one of the world's oldest guns, and the National War Museum of Scotland amongst other attractions. The fantastic views from the castle's ramparts are also not to be missed.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims visiting the Edinburgh Castle will not be able to find prayer facilities within its premises. They will therefore have to ask to be directed to a mosque nearby. Due to the sizeable population of Muslims living in Edinburgh and the surrounding area, there are quite a few mosques and Islamic Centers. The Edinburgh Central Mosque, the Blackhall Mosque and the Annandale Street Mosque are just three of the many mosques in the city.

Halal Food

Visitors to Edinburgh Castle will be able to experience a traditional afternoon tea at the Tea Rooms. They can also grab a bite to eat at the Redcoat Café. While Muslim visitors will not be able to find Halal certified food at any of these outlets, they will certainly be able to find suitable vegetarian and seafood dishes. They will also be able to locate Halal restaurants in the city of Edinburgh without a problem.
