Overview

Britain's national museum of arms and armour, the Royal Armouries is a popular attraction in Leeds and houses a world-renowned collection. This famous collection consists of about 8,5000 items spread across five galleries and coves a period of some 3,000 years. War, Tournament, Oriental, Self Defence and Hunting are the five galleries found at the Royal Armouries Museum. Visitors to these galleries will come across the development of weapons and the art of warfare from early history to the current day, arms and armour from around the world, including countries like Japan, China, Persia and Turkey, a collection of hunting and sporting weapons and much more. The Hall of Steel is a highlight of the museum and is its architectural centerpiece. This giant staircase features 2,500 objects reminiscent of the historical trophy displays erected by the Tower Armouries from the 17th century, all displayed on its walls. Also while at the museum, visitors will get to experience live demonstrations and stunning reenactments in the Arena, including displays of falconry, horsemanship and jousting.

Prayer Facilities

Finding prayer facilities at the Royal Armouries Museum will not be possible. Muslims visiting the museum will therefore have to visit one of the several mosques or Islamic Centers in the city of Leeds, such as the Leeds Grand Mosque, Leeds Makkah Masjid, Leeds Islamic Centre, Masjid Ibraheem or Al Madina Mosque.

Halal Food

The Royal Armouries Museum also houses a coffee shop, a bistro and a picnic area, on the second floor, the ground floor and fourth floor, respectively. Muslim visitors will not be able to find Halal certified food here, but they will definitely find suitable vegetarian and seafood options on the menu. Also, due to its sizeable Muslim population, the city of Leeds is home to quite a number of Halal restaurants.
