Overview

When in the city of Fez, a visit to the Madrasa Bou Inania is an absolute must. A popular tourist attraction in Morocco, the Madrasa Bou Inania is a preserved historical site, a great example of Islamic architecture and is one of the few religious buildings in the city that non-Muslims are allowed to enter. This madrasa was built by the Merenid sultan Bou Inan between 1350 and 1357. Madrasa Bou Inania is one of the most stunning buildings in Morocco and is known for its fabulously carved woodwork, elegant marble floors and beautifully sculpted ceilings amongst other intricate elements of the building's interior and exterior. This impressive madrasa was originally built to house theology students. Visitors can now visit the top floor to view the residential quarters. From here they will be able to see the madrasa's exquisite marble courtyard home to an ablution fountain and a breathtaking minaret which is covered in green tiles. Since this architectural masterpiece is an Islamic school of learning, it houses a prayer hall which also happens to be truly magnificent.

Prayer Facilities

As mentioned above, Madrasa Bou Inania houses a prayer hall and also offers ablution facilities. Muslim visitors will therefore be able to offer their prayers here without a problem. Also, since Fez is a Muslim city, finding prayer facilities will be quite easy. The Kairaouine Mosque is the city's most popular mosque and the second largest mosque in Morocco.

Halal Food

Since Islam is the most practiced religion in Morocco, finding Halal food in the city of Fez will not prove to be a problem. Muslims visiting Madrasa Bou Inania will be able to find numerous restaurants around the popular attraction. Visitors must make it a point to try out some of Morocco's most popular dishes, such as couscous, harira and tajine. Moroccan pastries are also world renowned and can be found throughout the city.
