Overview

Forming the central hub of Casablanca's new town is the popular Place Mohamed V. This central plaza houses some of Casablanca's most striking architecture and is home to many of the city's important official buildings, such as the French Consulate, the Bank of Morocco, the Court of Justice and the main post office. Named in honor of the former Sultan, Place Mohamed V is undisputedly the heart of Casablanca. It is a great place to explore and people watch. Found in the center of the square is a monumental fountain surrounded by well-tended gardens. Visitors will also come across numerous bustling cafés, the clock tower, a variety of souvenir shops, Art Deco style architecture, an equestrian statue of Marshal Lyautey by François Cogné and more. The fountain found here is dramatically lit up in the evening, putting on a spectacular show. The gardens found to the eastern side of Place Mohammed are great for relaxing and are a popular spot amongst locals and tourists alike.
