Overview

The Badshahi Mosque, constructed in 1674 by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, is one of the most famous mosques in the world. It is also one of Lahore's best known landmarks and a great example of the beauty and grandeur of the Mughal era. One of the largest mosques in the world and the second largest in Pakistan, the Badshahi Mosque can accommodate 100,000 worshipers at a time. Those visiting the mosque will come across huge gateways, a gigantic open courtyard said to hold up to 60,000 people, three extensive marble domes and four tapering minarets of red sandstone and white marble along with the stunning mosque. Built on a raised platform which can be reached by climbing 22 steps, the mosque is decorated with sculptured panels that are simply stunning. The mosque is a magnificent site and is definitely worth a visit when in Lahore.

Prayer Facilities

As mentioned above, the Badshahi Mosque can accommodate up to 100,000 worshippers, which means that Muslim visitors will definitely be able to offer their prayers here. Also, since Lahore is a Muslim city, finding prayer facilities throughout will not be a problem. Two of the many mosques in Lahore include the Grand Jamia Mosque and Wazir Khan Mosque.

Halal Food

While those visiting the Badshahi Mosque will not find food outlets within the mosque's premises, they will certainly be able to locate plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area. Finding Halal restaurants and cafés will be extremely easy. Tourists must make it a point to try out some of Pakistani's most popular dishes from these street food stalls and restaurants.
