Overview

While Jeju Island consists of a number of fascinating villages, there are a few that stand out more than others, making them absolute must-visits. The artistic village of Nakcheon should be every visitor's first stop, as it offers a different cultural experience. What make it so unique are the chairs of various styles, sizes, shapes and colours that can be seen throughout the village. In fact, at the entrance of the village itself visitors will come across a giant wooden chair! Also while here, visitors will be able to take part in a number of different programs and activities such as making and tasting food items made out of barley, which is a local specialty. Located on Jeju's seaside is Yerae, an ecology village that has managed to keep its traditions even though it is located near one of the greatest tourism complexes in Korea; Jungmun Resort. Yerae Village is known for its natural beauty and for being home to a number of cultural sites, as well as for offering various ecological experiences, like organic farming and mandarin picking. Travellers may also head to the real-life Myeongdoam Village - which is famed for its traditional Korean food experience. While these experiences will depend on the season, visitors are sure to be able to take part in something interesting no matter when they visit.

Prayer Facilities

While Muslim tourists will be able to find one mosque on Jeju Island, namely the Jeju Islamic Center, they will not be able to locate any prayer facilities in the villages mentioned above. They are however sure to find plenty of secluded areas outdoors to offer their prayers. Muslims visiting the villages can therefore ask the locals to direct them to a clean and quiet place at prayer times.

Halal Food

Muslim visitors will not be able to find any Halal restaurants in Nakcheon Village or Yarae Village. They will however be able to dine at local food outlets after making sure the dishes do not consist of any non-Halal ingredients. There are also a couple of Halal restaurants on Jeju Island, for those who choose not to dine at non-Halal local restaurants.
