Overview
Bishop's Palace is one of the best places in Waterford for tourists to learn about the city's fascinating past. Designed by Richard Castles; one of Ireland's greatest architects, Bishop's Palace dates from 1741 and today houses a museum dedicated to Georgian and Victorian Waterford. This gem of a museum features period furniture, rare portraits and paintings, memorabilia of Thomas Francis Meagher, the oldest surviving piece of Waterford crystal in the world, amongst other important exhibits. Visitors also get the chance to see what a house in the area might have looked like in the past, as the first two floors of Bishop's Palace are laid out as a historic house. Guided tours of the building are offered for those interested in learning more about Georgian and Victorian Waterford.
Prayer Facilities
Bishop's Palace does not have prayer facilities for Muslim visitors. Muslims visiting the attraction will however be able to find a couple of mosques in the city, namely the Central Watford Mosque and the North Watford Mosque. They can therefore ask staff at the museum to direct them to one of the mosques when needed.
Halal Food
Visitors to the attraction will be able to take a break and enjoy some refreshments at the Bishop's Palace Café. Although visitors will find plenty of delicious food items here, Muslims will have to dine on seafood or vegetarian dishes, as non-Halal ingredients are sure to be widely used. Muslim visitors could also dine at one of the few Halal restaurants in Waterford.
