Overview
Located in the centre of Donegal Town, beside the River Eske, is the 15th century Donegal Castle. Built by the O'Donnell chieftain and then added on to by Sir Basil Brooke, the castle laid in ruins until it was beautifully restored. Today, the castle is open to the public; with guided tours of the well-furnished rooms available. While Donegal Castle is relatively small, it is known to be quite interesting and offers visitors a glimpse into the town's medieval past. While self-guided tours are also an option, those choosing the guided tour will learn numerous fascinating facts about the castle, its construction and its inhabitants.
Prayer Facilities
Finding prayer facilities at Donegal Castle will not be possible. The castle is however surrounded by a garden, in which Muslim visitors are sure to find a secluded area to offer their prayers. If unable to do so, they will have to return to their accommodation at prayer times, as Donegal Town is not known to house a prayer facility.
Halal Food
While Donegal Castle does not house a café, visitors will find a restaurant across the street from the attraction. Muslim visitors will have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian items here, as non-Halal ingredients are sure to be used. Because Donegal has a small Muslim community, Muslim tourists will also be able to find a few Halal restaurants in town.
