Overview
When in Letterkenny, the historic Newmills Corn & Flax Mills complex; located just 5 kilometres outside the city, is an absolute must-visit. Newmills offers visitors a glimpse into County Donegal's industrial history, with the oldest surviving building found here said to be 400 years old. While most mills now use more sophisticated technology, Newmills Corn & Flax Mills is home to one of the largest waterwheels in the country that is powered by the River Swilly and used to drive the machinery of the corn and flaxmill. By visiting Newmills, visitors thus get to experience first-hand the different and fascinating agricultural and industrial practices used in the past.
Prayer Facilities
While Muslim visitors to the Newmills Corn & Flax Mills will not be able to find prayer facilities, they are sure to find a secluded place within the attraction to offer their prayers. The city of Letterkenny is also known to house a mosque and a separate facility for Friday prayers. Muslim tourists can therefore ask staff at Newmills to direct them to either one, when needed.
Halal Food
Newmills Corn & Flax Mills is not known to house a food outlet. Visitors to the attraction will however be able to find several restaurants and cafés in the city of Letterkenny. While most of these restaurants will not be Halal certified, Muslim tourists will also be able to find a few Halal restaurants in the city, due to its small Muslim community.
