Overview

Hanoi's Old Quarter is one of the most popular destinations in the city. It is Hanoi's major commercial district and is world renowned for its fascinating history and colonial architecture. The best way to see as much as possible is to explore it on foot. Visitors get an old world feel when visiting this old merchant area as it still has the original street layout, with many of the streets being preserved over the decades. These narrow merchant streets are packed to the brim with shops selling a diverse variety of knick-knacks, and named after business that was specialized on each street about 1000 years ago. The hustle and bustle of the streets, the assortments of shops, and the people make Hanoi's Old Quarter incredibly charming and give tourists the opportunity to experience rich old Vietnamese customs. The Old Quarter also houses a number of restaurants and cafés, bakeries, art galleries and more.

Prayer Facilities

The only known mosque in Hanoi city; Al-Noor Mosque, is located on Hang Luoc Street in the old French Quarter. Those exploring the Old Quarter will, therefore, be able to offer their prayers with ease. Muslims visiting the area can ask locals to guide them to this mosque when needed.

Halal Food

As mentioned above, the Old Quarter is home to a variety of great restaurants and cafés. It is also known for its numerous street food stalls and carts selling delicious fresh fruit and unique Vietnamese dishes. While finding Halal food in Hanoi will be difficult, it is possible due to its sizeable Muslim population. When dining at any establishment, it is best for Muslims to make sure the dishes they order are Halal, as non-Halal food is widely available.
