Overview

A popular attraction in Ho Chi Minh City and a prominent symbol of the country's political history is the Reunification Palace. This important site of political and cultural significance was built by the French in 1868. It then became the headquarters for the Japanese, during which it was destroyed. A new palace; the Independence Palace, a Modernist icon was built in its place. In 1975 a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through the palace's main gates, indicating the liberation of Saigon - the end of the Vietnam War. Since this is when Vietnam was reunified, the building came to be known as Reunification Palace. Today, tourists can take a free guided tour to explore the palace, or they can tour it on their own. Much of the landmark still remains unchanged. Visitors will come across a variety of rooms frozen in time, such as a war room, a gaming room, cavernous lobbies and living quarters, amongst others, all lavishly furnished. Apart from the numerous unchanged rooms and incredible antiques found here, visitors will also come across the original tank that crashed through the gates of the palace, in its grounds.

Prayer Facilities

The Reunification Palace does not have prayer facilities for Muslim visitors. Muslims visiting the attraction will therefore have to visit one of the several mosques in Ho Chi Minh City, such as the Central Mosque, Cholon Mosque, Jamiul Islamiyah Mosque, Jamul An Ar Mosque, Al Rahman Mosque or Jamiyah Islamic Mosque.

Halal Food

Muslim tourists will definitely be able to find Halal eateries in Ho Chi Minh City due to its sizeable Muslim population. While Halal restaurants can be found throughout Ho Chi Minh City, a lot of these establishments are located near the local mosques. If needed, Muslim tourists could ask to be directed to the best Halal restaurant near Reunification Palace.
