Overview
Located about 45 minutes from Can Tho's city centre is the Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary – one of the top attractions in Can Tho, and one of the largest bird sanctuaries in the Mekong River Delta. Home to thousands of stalks; including many rare species, this attraction is not only popular amongst bird lovers, it is also ideal for those interested in immersing themselves in nature and eco toursim. On arriving, visitors will see 1.3 hectares of lush green gardens with a variety of trees, dotted with the bright white color of the stalks. During the rainy season, visitors can explore the sanctuary on boats, which otherwise can be discovered on foot or motorcycle. Those who want to get a better view of the birds could visit the tall wooden viewing platform found here. The unique attraction is best visited at around 6 to 7am when the storks go looking for food, or at around 5pm when they come back.
Prayer Facilities
Since there are no known mosques or Islamic Centres in Can Tho, Muslim tourists will also not be able to locate any prayer facilities at the Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary. They will however be able to find plenty of space outdoors to offer their prayers. They may also be able to pray in the hut mentioned below.
Halal Food
After a tour of the garden, visitors will be offered a variety of unique foods, all made from an odd ingredient - storks. They will find items like stork soup, roasted stork and fried stork here. All of these unique dishes can be enjoyed outdoors, in a hut that is surrounded by lush greenery.
