Imperial Citadel

Overview

The former seat of government, the Imperial Citadel is not only one of the main attractions of the city of Hue but is also one of the most significant historical sites in the city. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is a massive complex that houses the Imperial Residence, the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple City and more within its thick walls. This historical site designed after the Forbidden City of Beijing is not only known for its rich architecture but also for its beautiful landscaping. Due to the Vietnam War, many of the buildings were destroyed; while the remaining buildings are actively being renovated. Touring this popular site with a guide is highly recommended as it adds to the experience. Since there are no guides at the entrance, it is best to book a guide in advance through a tour group. However, since tours do not cover the entire citadel, tourists may wants to stay back after the tour and explore the rest of it on their own.

Prayer Facilities

Since there are no known mosques or Islamic centers in the city of Hue, Muslim tourists will not be able to locate any prayer facilities at the Imperial Citadel. They could ask their tour guide to direct them to a secluded area within the citadel to offer their prayers, or return to their hotel rooms at prayer times.

Halal Food

Muslim tourists will not be able to locate any Halal certified restaurants in the city of Hue. Muslims visiting the Imperial Citadel will therefore have to dine at one of the vegetarian restaurants in the city, or choose suitable seafood or vegetarian options at a non-Halal restaurant in the city.
