Overview

The National Archeological Museum, located in the heart of Athens is the largest archeological museums in Greece and is also considered to be one of the best in the world. The museum is home to an extensive collection of antiquities from Athens and other parts of Greece and is housed in a 19th century neoclassical building, which has seen many additions made to its original structure over the years. With over 20,000 exhibits from prehistoric times up to late antiquity, spread across its many galleries, visitors get to see a fascinating and exceptional collection of artifacts and artwork from all over Greece. Tourists visiting this wonderful museum will come across a variety of interesting exhibits including ancient statues, pottery, weapons, jewelry, utensil and more.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim tourists will not find prayer facilities at the National Archeological Museum; however they may be able to locate a number of unofficial prayer facilities in the city. Al Salam is one such facility, located underground, used by the city's local Muslim population. Tourists could use these facilities, or they will have to return to their hotel rooms at prayer times.

Halal Food

Although the National Archeological Museum houses two cafés within its premises, these outlets are not Halal certified. Muslim tourists will have to choose suitable seafood or vegetarian options if they decide to get a bite to eat at one of the two cafes, or they can dine at one of the several Halal restaurants in the city of Athens.
