Overview

Syntagma Square is the most important squares of modern Athens and tourists exploring the city usually pass through it several times during their stay here. Syntagma Square, otherwise known as Constitution Square due to the constitution which was granted after a political uprising that took place at the square, is a historically significant square that is always crowded with both locals and tourists alike. Having undergone extensive renovations, the square is now open again to the public and is still a place where demonstrations take place, as well as being a popular meeting place for the young and old. Tourists visiting this well known square will find the parliament building, located on the east side of the square is perhaps the focal point of the square, while the central fountain and ponds, its green areas shaded by trees and dotted with benches all add to the beauty of the area. The highlight of a visit here might be watching the changing of the guard's ceremony that takes place every hour.

Prayer Facilities

There are no official mosques in Athens; there are however a number of prayer facilities in the city that are used by the local Muslim population. Tourists visiting Syntagma Square could ask the locals to direct them to one of these facilities, or will have to return to their hotel rooms at prayer times.

Halal Food

While there are a number of cafés and kiosks in the area, Muslim tourists visiting Syntagma Square may not find these outlets to be Halal. They will however be able to locate some Halal restaurants in the city of Athens, which are known to serve an array of cuisines ranging from Indian to Lebanese.
