Overview

The White Tower of Thessaloniki is a monument and museum in Thessaloniki and is a symbol of the city. Located on the city's waterfront, the White Tower has a long history; having first being built to defend Thessaloniki's harbor. It however then became an infamous prison and the scene of mass executions, and came to be known as the "Tower of Blood". The exterior of the tower was then whitewashed and then came to be known as the White Tower. Today, the attraction is open to the public and houses a museum dedicated to Thessaloniki's history and culture. The museum is great for tourists looking to learn about the city, and is ideal for families as it offers a variety of interactive displays. The White Tower is also known to offer stunning panoramic views of the city and the sea from its highest level.

Prayer Facilities

Although Muslims visiting the White Tower of Thessaloniki will not be able to find prayer facilities at the attraction, they will be able to locate a few mosques in the city. The main mosques in Thessaloniki are however the Hellenic-Arabic Center for Culture and Civilization and the New Mosque; the latter of which is a 111-year-old mosque.

There are no known food outlets at the White Tower of Thessaloniki. And, while finding a Halal restaurant in Thessaloniki will be quite difficult, it may be possible, since there is a sizeable amount of Muslims in the city. Muslim tourists could therefore make inquiries regarding this while at the local mosque.
