Overview
One must-visit attraction in Corfu Town is Palaio Frourio or the Old Fort, which is situated on the remains of a Byzantine Castle. The Old Fort was constructed by the Venetians in the 15th century and then had changes made to it by the British. It lies at the eastern end of Corfu Town, on a rocky manmade island. The fort once had a moat and a draw bridge, but today a steel bridge connects the landmark to the city. Within the historical Venetian fortress, visitors will come across numerous significant monuments and some stunning architecture, including the Church of St. George which is a highlight of the attraction. Also found here are a Byzantine museum, a lighthouse, a clock tower, Municipal Library, and several other public offices. While the fort is visited mainly for its historical attractions, the breathtaking views also draw in a number of tourists each day.
Prayer Facilities
Corfu Town is not known to house any mosques or Islamic Centres. Muslim tourists will also not be able to find prayer facilities at any of the city's attractions. They will therefore have to find a secluded place outdoors to offer their prayers, or if unable to, they will have to return to their hotel rooms at prayer times.
Halal Food
Finding Halal food in Corfu Town will also not be possible. Muslim visitors will therefore have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes at local non-Halal restaurants. While at the Old Fort, tourists can get a bite to eat at the Old Fortress Café, while enjoying the splendid views.
