Overview
Running between Corfu Town and the Old Fort is the popular Esplanade or the Spianada. This large green open space is full of trees and benches and has become a public park frequented by locals and tourists alike. It is a great place for foreigners to people watch as it is a central meeting spot, and for them to get a feel of the town. Surrounded by beautiful buildings and overlooked by the Old Venetian Fortress, the wide promenade is a place like no other. While here, visitors will come across the Liston, a long beautiful building which was built during the French occupation in the style of the Parisian Rue de Rivoli, which is now home to some of the best cafés and restaurants. Also found here are flower gardens, a fountain, other French and Venetian style buildings, a cricket field, numerous other cafés and restaurants, and the Royal Palace of Corfu; which is now home to the Museum of Asian Art.
Prayer Facilities
There are no known mosques or Islamic Centres in the city of Corfu. Muslims visiting the numerous attractions in Corfu Town will therefore also not be able to find any prayer facilities. They will have to return to their hotel rooms at prayer times, or if possible, find a secluded place outdoors to offer their prayers.
Halal Food
As mentioned above, the Esplanade houses a fantastic selection of cafés, coffee shops and restaurants; some of the best in the area. While Muslim tourists will not be able to find any dining establishments that are Halal certified, they will most certainly find some cafés serving seafood and vegetarian dishes.
