Overview

The Rimondi Fountain, known as Vrisakia to the locals is situated in Platanos Square in Rethymno Town. The city has eight surviving fountains, but the Rimondi Fountain is the only one that dates back to the Venetian era. Built by the Venetian Rector of the city, Rimondi, in 1626, the famous Rimondi Fountain is today known for its beautiful architectural and sculptural decorations, but once supplied the city with drinkable water. The fountain consists of spouts that are in the shape of a lion's heads and columns with fluted carving. It was also added to during the Turkish rule; only one of the columns that held up the hemispherical dome that was added is present today.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim tourists will not be able to find any functioning mosques in the city of Rethymno, nor will they be able to locate any prayer facilities at the city's attractions. They will therefore have to find a clean and quiet place outdoors to offer their prayers, or will have to return to their hotel rooms at prayer times.

Halal Food

Visitors to the Rimondi Fountain should be able to find plenty of cafés and restaurants in the surrounding area. These restaurants will however not be Halal certified. Muslim tourists will therefore have to dine on vegetarian and seafood dishes at local non-Halal restaurants, after ensuring that the dishes consist of only Halal ingredients.
