Overview

When in Salzburg, it is absolutely impossible to miss seeing the Fortress Hohensalzburg. Located atop the small hill; Festungsberg, and towering over the city of Salzburg, this 11th century fortress has become a symbol of the city and is a top tourist destination. The magnificent complex is a mix of architectural styles and consists of numerous elegant rooms and a museum, and offers breathtaking panoramic views. The stunning regency rooms found here are known to be some of Europe's most beautiful gothic secular chambers, and the museum offers visitors a look into the history of the fortress. Visitors will also come across the Marionette Theater's Museum; which is great for kids, along with the illuminated lower church, the torture chamber, a number of other interior rooms, the fortress hall, and the castle's exterior which must also be explored. There are audio guided tours that visitors can take which allows them to explore the fascinating attraction at their own pace.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims visiting Fortress Hohensalzburg will be unable to find a prayer room within the landmark. They will however be able to locate quite a few mosques in the city of Salzburg, such as the Salzburg Moschee, the Islamic Cultural Association in Salzburg, Krems Moschee and Türkischer Kulturverein Selimiye. While at Fortress Hohensalzburg, visitors can therefore ask to be guided to the nearest mosque when needed.

Halal Food

Fortress Hohensalzburg is not known to house a café. Visitors looking to get a bite to eat will be able to find plenty of restaurants and cafés in the city of Salzburg. Muslim tourists will also not find it much of a problem to locate Halal restaurants, as the city has a sizeable Muslim population. While some of these outlets will be completely Halal, others will only be partially Halal. Muslim visitors will be able to get more information regarding the best Halal restaurants in the city while at the local mosque.
