Overview

The Schlossberg in Graz is hard to miss as it dominates the city's landscape. Literally meaning 'castle-mountain' the Schlossberg is a tree-clad hill situated in the centre of Graz. This popular attraction is the site of a fortress, beautiful gardens, and is where the symbol of Graz; its 13th century Clock Tower is perched. The fortifications have now been leveled and the hill has been turned into a public park. The natural spectacle is also known for offering stunning views of the medieval city and the surrounding hillside. Visitors will come across a few restaurants where they will be able to enjoy a drink or some food and admire the beautiful sunset. Climbing up the Schlossberg is a pleasant experience but can be a bit of a workout. Those who do not want to brave the steep paths and staircases can reach the summit via the "Schlossbergbahn" funicular, a railway system that has been built into the mountain.

Prayer Facilities

The Schlossberg does not have prayer facilities for Muslim visitors, but the city of Graz is known to have quite a few mosques, due to its sizeable Muslim community. Some of the mosques and Islamic Centres in Graz include Al Nur Mosque, the Islamic Center of Graz, Mevlana Camii Moschee and Islamischer Glaubensverein Taqwa.

Halal Food

As mentioned above, the Schlossberg does have a few cafés and restaurants. While these outlets will not be Halal certified, Muslim tourists are sure to find vegetarian and seafood dishes on the menu. Muslims visiting Graz will also be able to locate quite a few Halal restaurants, many of which are known to serve Turkish cuisine.
