Overview

Located in the middle of the Mur River in Graz's Old Town is the Murinsel, an artificial floating platform. Built on the occasion of Graz being granted the role of European Capital of Culture in 2003, Murinsel is now a landmark of Graz. This man-made island offers visitors a completely new perspective of the city. The 47-meter-long structure is known for its unique architecture which resembles a large upside-down seashell. It is connected to the banks of the river by two footbridges. Murinsel houses a unique amphitheater in its middle section, as well as a playground for kids and a café. The three-dimensional rope maze, along with the fun slide found here will allow adults to enjoy a great meal at the café while watching the river water rushing by.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims visiting the Murinsel will not be able to find prayer facilities at the attractions. However, due to the sizeable Muslim community in the city of Graz, there are quite a few mosques and Islamic Centres, such as Al Nur Mosque, the Islamic Center of Graz, Mevlana Camii Moschee and Islamischer Glaubensverein Taqwa.

Halal Food

As mentioned, above, the Murinsel is home to a café, namely the Insel Café. While the food served here will not be Halal certified, Muslim visitors are sure to find seafood and vegetarian dishes on the menu. They will also be able find a number of Halal restaurants throughout the city, most of which are Turkish.
