Overview

Albufeira's picturesque Old Town is an absolute must-visit when in the city. Home to a maze of narrow cobbled streets, fishermen's houses, a fantastic variety of restaurants and cafés, shops and street stalls, and a charming central square, the Old Town has not changed much and still manages to remain the way it was before the small fishing village of Albufeira became a popular tourist spot. The Old Town therefore also has a number of historical sites, ancient monuments and old churches. Right in front of the Old Town is the popular Fishermen's Beach, known for its crystal clear azure waters and soft golden sand. Visitors must therefore explore the Old Town's winding streets, get a bite to eat at one of the street side cafés and then end up at the beach where they can relax and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Prayer Facilities

The city of Albufeira is known to house a mosque, namely the Albufeira Mosque, due to its small Muslim population. While exploring the Old Town, Muslim tourists can therefore ask the locals to direct them to this prayer facility when needed. They could also try to find a secluded place outdoors to offer their prayers.

Halal Food

As mentioned above, Albufeira's Old Town is packed to the brim with a great selection of cafés and restaurants. While these establishments will offer a number of options, Muslim visitors will most probably not be able to find Halal certified food here. There are also no known Halal restaurants in Albufeira, but there are a few restaurants that may serve Halal dishes on request. Muslim tourists could therefore go in search of one such restaurant, or they could dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes. There are also plenty of seafood restaurants on the beachfront.
