Overview
The Choupal National Forest or Mata Nacional do Choupal is the ideal place for tourists looking to spend a fun day outdoors. Located just a few kilometres from Coimbra's city centre, the Choupal Forest was planted to stem the Mondego River. Today, this attractive natural park is popular amongst locals and tourists alike as it offers a wide variety of attractions. Apart from being home to a variety of flora, the forest also houses many species of animals, birds and insects. The Choupal National Forest is also home to a 70 metre tall eucalyptus tree; known to be the biggest in Europe. Visitors to the forest can relax by the river, explore its many trails and admire the beautiful trees and plants. The forest is also great for jogging, horseback riding and cycling, and also has areas for picnics and barbeques.
Prayer Facilities
Muslim tourists will not be able to find prayer facilities at the Choupal National Forest. They should however be able to find a clean and quiet area outdoors to offer their prayers. They could also make use of the facilities offered at the one known mosque in Coimbra; Mesquita de Coimbra.
Halal Food
The Choupal National Forest is known to house a cafeteria. Visitors will therefore be able to sip on a cup of steaming coffee while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings. Since there are no known Halal restaurants in the city, Muslim tourists will have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes while at the cafeteria, or at the other non-Halal restaurants in the city.
