Overview

Located right in the heart of historic évora, at the highest point of the city is the Roman Temple of évora, or the Templo Romano de évora, also referred to as the Temple of Diana. This Roman temple is évora's finest monument and is one of the best-preserved Roman structures in Portugal, as well as on the Iberian Peninsula. Since évora was an important Roman trading town, the Roman temple is a great example of the city's past and is therefore of historical importance. It was once part of a castle, then it was used as an execution site, and after that it was converted into an abattoir. Today, this landmark is a top tourist attraction for its grand façade and for its eventful history. évora's UNESCO-listed city centre is made up of several significant sites, but the Roman temple is the most important. The ancient site is best visited at night, when it is all lit-up.

Prayer Facilities

Finding prayer facilities at the Roman Temple of évora will not be possible. Muslim tourists will therefore have to make use of the facilities offered at the only known mosque in the city, namely the Islamic Place of Worship of évora. Muslim tourists can ask locals to guide them to this facility when needed.

Halal Food

While the city of évora does have a small Muslim population, there are no known Halal restaurants in the city. Muslim tourists will therefore have to dine on suitable seafood or vegetarian dishes at a local non-Halal restaurant. They will also be able to get more information regarding the availability of Halal food while at the local mosque.
