Overview
Pena Park or Parque da Pena is a spectacular 200 hectare park surrounding the Palacio Nacional da Pena or the Pena National Palace, on the Serra de Sintra. The park consists of forested grounds, beautiful gardens, lakes, and over five hundred different species of trees and plants; including exotics ones from all over the world. Visitors to the park will also come across a maze of romantic paths; which were designed by King Fernando II, as well as the highest summit of the Serra de Sintra, which is a popular spot amongst visitors and offers wonderful photo-ops. Those visiting the park must also make it a point to visit the statue of King Fernando while here. While the Pena National Palace can be seen from any point in the park, the southern view point offers fantastic views of the palace.
Prayer Facilities
While Muslims visiting Pena Park and Pena National Palace will not be able to find prayer facilities within the attraction, they should be able to find a secluded area outdoors to offer their prayers. If they are unable to do so, they will have to return to their accommodation at prayer times, since there are no known mosques in the town of Sintra. There are however a few mosques in Lisbon, which is located about 45 minutes away from Sintra.
Halal Food
While visitors to Pena Park will not find any food outlets within the attraction, they will be able to find a plethora of restaurants in the town of Sintra. None of these dining establishments will however be Halal certified. Muslim visitors will therefore have to dine on seafood and vegetarian dishes at a local non-Halal restaurant.
