Overview
The Archeological Museum of Thera, located in the centre of Fira houses a collection of artifacts representing the islands long history. Built in 1960 to replace the old museum that was destroyed in the earthquake, this museum hosts some unique collections and exhibits from the Cycladic and Minoan period as well as material from the Roman period and Hellenistic periods. Those visiting this museum will be able to see sculptures, ceramics, statues, small vases and findings from the ancient cemetery of Thera. While the Archeological Museum is small and its exhibits may not be as impressive as the exhibits found at the Prehistoric Museum, visitors interested in the history of the island should definitely check this museum out as well. Visitors will find the sculptures and inscriptions from the Archaic to Roman periods interesting, however the most notable exhibits are the ceramic vessels, vases and clay figurines dating back to the Geometric and Hellenistic era from Akrotiri.
Prayer Facilities
The Archeological Museum does not provide prayer facilities within its premises and Muslim tourists requiring prayer facilities will not be able to locate mosques or Islamic centers in Fira either. Muslim visitors will have to return to their hotel rooms during prayer times or find a secluded area to offer their prayers.
Halal Food
Locating Halal cuisine in Fira is not possible since there are no known Halal restaurants in the city. Muslim tourists visiting the Archeological Museum could ask the locals to direct them to a nearby seafood restaurant or they could choose suitable vegetarian or seafood dishes at one the many restaurants in Fira.
