Overview

The 16th century Lynch's Castle is a great example of Galway's fascinating medieval past and is known to be the finest town castle in Ireland. Once home to the most powerful family in Galway, this Irish gothic style limestone building now houses the Allied Irish Bank. Situated at the junction of Shop Street and Upper Abbeygate Street, the beautifully preserved Lynch's Castle is visited for its impressive exterior and equally impressive interior. The castle's façade features carved stone windows, gargoyles and the Lynch family coat of Arms. While part of the interior is a bank, visitors will also come across an exhibition room and information featuring the history and architecture of the building.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim tourists will not be able to find prayer facilities at Lynch's Castle. They will however be able to locate a few mosques in the city of Galway, such as the Galway Mosque. Muslims visiting Lynch's Castle can therefore ask to be guided to the nearest masjid at prayer times.

Halal Food

While Lynch's Castle does not have a food outlet, visitors will be able to find several cafés and restaurants in the surrounding area. Muslim tourists will also be able to find a few Halal restaurants in Galway city, due to its sizeable Muslim population. While dining on seafood and vegetarian dishes at local restaurants, Muslims will have to be careful, as non-Halal ingredients are widely used.
