Overview

Located in the Killarney National Park, overlooking the Lower Lake or Lough Léin, is the imposing Ross Castle. This wonderfully restored 15th century castle was home to legendary Gaelic Chieftain O'Donoghue Ross, and more recently to the Browne family of Killarney. Known for being located on the popular lake which is frequented by locals and tourists, and for its attractive exterior, interior and surroundings; Ross Castle in an absolute must-visit when in Killarney. Visitors must make it a point to take a guided tour of the medieval tower to learn more about its history and to see a collection of 16th and 17th century oak furniture. They can also take a tour of the lake on one of the boats available for hire at the pier.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims visiting Ross Castle will not be able to find prayer facilities at the attraction. They will however be able to locate plenty of secluded areas outdoors to offer their prayers. Muslim tourists could also visit the only known mosque in the town of Killarney; the Killarney Islamic Cultural Centre & Mosque.

Halal Food

While finding Halal restaurants in Killarney will be possible, it will be quite difficult, since there is only one known Halal outlet in town. Muslim tourists can therefore dine at the Halal restaurant, or they can dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes at a local non-Halal restaurant, after making sure the dishes they order do not consist of any non-Halal ingredients.
