Overview
Located in the heart of the Medieval Quarter of Limerick City, on King's Island, is the iconic King John's Castle. Overlooking the River Shannon, the 13th century castle offers a variety of activities and exhibits based on the dramatic history of Ireland, Limerick and the castle, for visitors of all ages. This historical gem aims to bring to life the atmosphere of the era with reconstructed scenes, computer generated animations, information on the houses believed to be Viking in origin, video displays and more. While here, visitors must make it a point to explore the castle's battlements, its corner towers, siege tunnels and its courtyard where they will find displays on 16th century trades and traditions and more. The castle is also known to offer terrific views of the river and the surroundings.
Prayer Facilities
While finding prayer facilities at King John's Castle will not be possible, Muslim visiting the attraction may be able to find a clean and quiet place outdoors to offer their prayers. If unable to do so, they could also make use of the facilities offered at Limerick's one known prayer facility – the Limerick Mosque.
Halal Food
King John's Castle is known to house a café. Those visiting the attraction will therefore be able to have a fantastic meal while enjoying the magnificent views of the River Shannon and the castle's courtyard. Muslim visitors will have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes since non-Halal ingredients are sure to be widely used. They will also be able to find at least one Halal restaurant in Limerick, due to its sizeable Muslim population.
