Overview

Housed in the original Foynes terminal building is the fascinating Foynes Flying Boat Museum, a must-see for all visitors to Limerick, not just aviation enthusiasts. The museum tells visitors the story of the first transatlantic passenger flights by flying boat through a variety of interesting exhibits and displays and graphic illustrations, which include the original terminal building, an authentic 1940s cinema which features the award winning 'Atlantic Conquest' film, a radio and weather room with equipment, the only Boeing B314 replica in the world, and flight simulators. Visitors get to learn about the history of flying boats, and about the time Foynes was the centre of the aviation world. Also found here is the Maritime Museum, which focuses on the history of the River Shannon.

Prayer Facilities

Finding prayer facilities at the Foynes Flying Boat Museum will not be possible. Muslim visitors will therefore have to locate a clean and quiet place outdoors to offer their prayers, or they could visit the only known mosque in the city of Limerick, namely the Limerick Mosque. While at the museum, they can therefore ask to be guided to this prayer facility.

Halal Food

The Foynes Flying Boat Museum houses the Brendan O'Regan Restaurant and coffee shop. While visitors are sure to find a number of delicious dishes on the menu here, Muslim tourists will have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes since non-Halal ingredients are sure to be used. They could also visit Limerick's one known Halal restaurant.
