Overview

As one the oldest districts in the Philippines, Intramuros is also known as the 'Walled City' as it surrounded by massive stone walls. It was considered as a major part of Manila when it was under Spanish rule. A history buff will find monasteries, churches and beautiful old houses that have been restored. The Manila Cathedral should be visited to have a look at the architecture and beautiful stained glass windows. San Augustin Church is also worth visiting for the beautiful architecture that creates a very medieval environment. The surrounding wall of Intramuros is also designed with medieval styled fortifications and seven bastions built at different periods in time. During World War II, there was severe damaged done to the city and restoration efforts have been made since. Tourists have several interesting place to visit such as art galleries, monuments including museums with historical exhibits and artifacts. There is also a shrine dedicated to the life works of Jose Rizal, a national hero of the Philippines that attracts many tourists.

Prayer Facilities

Muslims travelers to Intramuros may find not Mosques near the city or prayer facilities at the location. The Manila Golden Mosque, Quiapo Mosque, Amepa Mosque and the Ermita Mosque can be found in Manila but far from Intramuros.

Halal Food

It is advised to first ask the staff at any place if they serve Halal food at their restaurant or stall. While there are numerous stalls and restaurants they might not be Halal certified. Ask locals to direct you some Halal restaurants near the walled city.
