Overview

Fort Pilar also known as the Real Fuerza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza was built in the 17th century when the Philippines was under Spanish colonisation. The former military defense fort is now a branch of The National Museum with an outdoor shrine. It has been considered as a National Cultural Treasure too. Tourists can visit the interesting exhibits inside the museum such as the permanent exhibit, The Marine Life of Zamboanga, Basilan and Sulu which showcases the marine life of the regions. Exhibits and artifacts rich with the history and culture of the region are displayed and should be seen when visiting the city. A relief of Our Lady of the Pilar that is situated above the eastern wall which make it an outdoor Roman Catholic shirine with an altar as well. The fort is now a popular tourist attraction as a historical landmark and because of Zamboanga's National Museum.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim travelers to the museum will not find prayer facilities at the location. However there are Mosques near Fort Pilar such as Masjid Zambagora, Masjid Magay, Grand Masjid Barbara and Fishpond Little Masjid.

Halal Food

There is a Muslim population in Zamboanga, so finding Halal food at places will not be very hard. You can ask locals who will help you find Halal restaurants near the museum that are within the city. If you are not sure, ask the staff if the food is Halal or order vegetarian or seafood meals.
