Located in the northwest part of the Walled City of Lahore is one of the city’s top attractions, the Lahore Fort or Shahi Qila. Although the site has existed since the eleventh century, this large complex of fortifications, marble mosques, gardens and palaces was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. Those visiting this star attraction of the Old City will come across the Sheesh Mahal , the Akbari Gate, Alamgiri Gate, Diwan-e-Aam, Jahangir’s Quadrangle, Diwan-e-Khas, Moti Masjid, Naulakha pavilion, Khawabgarh-i-Jehangir amongst other attractions. The Lahore Fort also houses three museums, the Mughal Museum, the Armoury Gallery and the Sikh Museum. The most impressive and notable palace in the Lahore Fort is the Sheesh Mahal, or the Palace of Mirrors. Located in the north-west corner of the fort, the celestial looking Palace of Mirrors is known to be one of the most majestic palaces of the Mughal period. Adorned in pure gold, glass mirrors, mosaic work, white marble and semi-precious stones, the Mirror Palace is the most notable sites in the Lahore Fort.

Prayer Facilities

While there are mosques located in the Lahore Fort complex, it is unclear if visitors will be able to offer their prayer there. If unable to, Muslim tourists can make use of one of the several mosques in the city of Lahore, such as Badshahi Masjid, Grand Jamia Mosque and Wazir Khan Mosque.

Halal Food

Finding Halal food in the city of Lahore will not be a problem at all. As it is a Muslim city, all restaurants and cafés will be Halal. Tourists visiting the Lahore Fort complex could either visit one of the numerous food stalls outside the complex, or they could ask locals to guide them to the best restaurant in the area. Visitors to the city must make it a point to try out some of Pakistan’s most popular dishes like biryani and kebabs.
