Ayvalik is a small and serene town located on the coast of Aegean Sea in Turkey. The town offers visitors with several fun things to do and enjoy. The harbour area of the city is the busiest place. Walking around the town and exploring the historic sites and architecture is one of the best ways to see the town.

A little off the coast of Ayvalik is the Alibey or Cunda Island. The island is separated from the mainland by a causeway. The old houses on the island are excellent examples of neo-classical architecture.

The suburb of Camlik is also good to visit. The area has beautiful old houses built among pine woods. Close to Camlik is a famous hilltop the Devil’s Table. There is a rock on the hill with a large hollow feature thought to be a footprint. According to a local legend it is the devil’s footprint left when he jumped to Lesvos. From the Devil’s Table visitors can get a complete view of the coves and beautiful islands. About 8 Km from the town is the Sarimsakli Beach which is 7 Km long.

Ayvalik is known for olives and shopping for items made from olives is a must when in the town. The PersembePazariis a narrow lane which has several shops selling local produce and items.

Nearby Airports

The nearest airport to Ayvalik is the EdremitKorfez Airport around 40 Km from the town. The airport is served by flights from Ankara and Istanbul. There is an international airport located about 175 Km from Ayvalik the Adnan Menderes Airport in Izmir. Buses are available from both the airports to Ayvalik.

There are quite a number of halal restaurants in Ayvalik where visitors can relish authentic Turkish cuisine. The local cuisine generally comprises of seafood usually with olive oil dressing.

There are a few mosques in Ayvalik. The most prominent mosque in the city is the SaatliCamii located in the center of the town. The other mosques in the town include Cinarli Mosque, Hayrettin Pasa Mosque, Sehitler Mosque, etc.
