Overview

Kuala Lumpur International Airport, widely known as KLIA, is one of South Asia's key aviation hubs. It is also Malaysia's main international airport. The airport is located in the Sepang area, about 50 km from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. KLIA consists of two terminals: Main Terminal Building (MTB) and Satellite A. The second terminal is only for transit passengers it is linked to the first one by a rapid monorail train.

Besides these two regular terminals, there is a third Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT). The airport is served by many reputable international and domestic airlines.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim prayer rooms are provided along with toilets and ablution facilities for Muslim travelers and visitors who wish to perform their prayers. These prayer rooms cater to the needs of both male and female visitors and are available at the following locations: Main Terminal Building (MTB) - at all levels of the Main Terminal Building Contact Pier (CP) &fnof;?? close to the entrance to Gates B2-B10 (international flights) and next to transfer counters (domestic flights) Satellite Building (SAT) - at the Mezzanine Level, Gates C11-C17 and Gates C21-C27

There is also a special Silent Room facility for those who want to spend some time for a quiet prayer or meditation. It is located at Level 5 of the Departure Hall at the Main Terminal Building. A beautiful mosque, known as Sultan Abdul Samad mosque or the KLIA mosque, also lies within the KLIA premises.

Halal Food

There are about 25 food and beverage outlets at KLIA offering what appears like a never-ending range of food from refreshments, to fast food and top fine dining restaurants. They are located both in the public and transit areas. All of these offer Halal food unless stated otherwise.

KLIA has seven main retail spots within the MTB and Satellite A. There are duty free shops, gift shops and convenience stores that offer a large variety of products, ranging from cigarettes, perfumes and souvenirs to books, magazines, Malaysian collectibles and much more.

Amenities

The Plaza Business Center offers a wide range of business services including telephone, fax, Internet access, videoconferencing, post office and secretarial services. Additional business facilities are available at the Airside Transit Hotel and the KLIA Pan Pacific Hotel. They provide fax, photocopying, Internet, workstation hire and secretarial services.
KLIA has specifically designed lifts, customized telephones and toilets with wheelchair access for disabled travelers. Reserved parking spaces are also provided in the car park. Any travelers in need of special treatment should notify their airline prior to departue.
KLIA offers complimentary wireless Internet service at departure and arrival halls. There are also baby-changing rooms, a children's play area, a post office, a 24-hour medical clinic, pharmacies and a fitness center with separate shower, sauna and spa services for ladies and gents.
KLIA is the first airport in the Asia Pacific Region and Malaysia&fnof;??s first Travel and Tourism organization to qualify for the Green Globe 21 certification. This requires incessant commitment towards recognition, management and enhancement of the environmental and social impacts of the airport's operations.

Getting There

There are a number of ways for getting from the airport to Kuala Lumpur and back. Airport Limo (M) Sdn Bhd provides a 24-hour budget and premier airport taxi service to and from KLIA. Tickets can be purchased at taxi counters located at Arrival Halls of the MTB. Prices are charged according to destination. As a reference, the price for the budget service is RM 67.40 (US $20) from KLIA to Kuala Lumpur Central (KLCT) whereas the premier service costs RM 92.40 (US $26). The journey to Kuala Lumpur takes around one hour.

There are regular train services between KLIA and the city. KLIA Ekspres is an express rail service that exclusively serves travelers between KLIA and Kuala Lumpur&fnof;??s Sentral Station. The journey takes 28 minutes one way and costs around RM 35. KLIA Transit is another high-speed commuter train that runs between the airport and KL City Air Terminal.

There are also regular bus services from KLIA to Kuala Lumpur, Nilai KTM Komuter station and Subang. The bus stop is located on the ground floor of Block C in the covered car parking.
