The Grande-Île is the historical center of Strasbourg and is one of the main attractions of the city. Named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, this small area of Strasbourg is home to an outstanding number of monuments. Surrounded by the river Ill on two sides, the Grande-Île is a wonderful place to see the fascinating blend of both French and German influences. With a network of post medieval streets, several ancient churches and a number of black and white timber framed building from medieval times, this part of Strasbourg is definitely worth a visit. Many of these medieval buildings and renaissance mansions have been transformed to house museums. The Palais Rohan, an 18 century baroque style palace, houses three museums including the Museum of Beaux Arts, while another building houses The Historical Museum. Tourists visiting Strasbourg will surely enjoy walking through the cobbled streets admiring the remarkable architecture of the past.

 Muslim visitors requiring prayer facilities when in Strasbourg will be able to find them without much difficulty, as the city is home to a few mosques. The Grand Mosque de Strasbourg is the largest mosque in the city and the most prominent, while other mosques in the city include Mosque Eyyup Sultan and the Mosque de Hautepierre Ar-Rahma. Tourists could therefore visit the above mentioned mosques when necessary.

Locating Halal food in the city of Strasbourg is possible, as the city is known to have a good number of Halal restaurants catering to its Muslim residents and visitors alike. Muslim tourists will be able to find restaurants serving a variety of cuisines such as Indian, Turkish and French. However, they should be aware that some restaurants may only have a partial Halal menu and may also serve alcohol.
