Scheveningen, is one of the eight districts of The Hague, and is the most popular seaside resort in The Netherlands. This modern seaside resort is more than just long, sandy beaches; it is also home to museums, a pier, shopping areas, a lighthouse and numerous other popular sites and attractions. It is not only perfect for water sport enthusiasts; it is also idea for those looking to unwind and relax as well as for nature lovers. Scheveningen offers something for everyone, therefore making it a must-visit when in The Netherlands. For Muslim tourists, finding Muslim-friendly facilities in Scheveningen will not be easy. There are no prominent mosques in Scheveningen, and even though there is a known Halal restaurant in Scheveningen, locating others will be tough.

Scheveningen Beach and promenade drive in tourists from all over The Netherlands as well as Germany. Tourists can relax on the beautiful sandy beaches, swim in the shimmering waters, go fishing, go shopping, walk among the sand dunes, play tennis, take a swim in an artificial wave pool and so much more. The beach in Scheveningen is also known for being ideal for water sports like windsurfing and kite boarding. There are even surf schools for beginners who want to try their hand at the sport. Muslim tourists must however be aware that part of the beach; about a 1 kilometre stretch is a nudist section.

After hitting the beach, tourists must make it a point to visit the Beelden aan Zee or Sculptures by the Sea; which is a sculpture museum situated in the dunes. It is one of the most spectacular and well-known sculpture gardens in the world therefore making it a must-visit.

Scheveningen’s Sea Life Aquarium is home to over 45 aquariums which in turn house more than 150 different species of fascinating sea life. Visitors will also come across a massive underwater tunnel while here. This tunnel is home to turtles, sharks and other wonderful sea creatures, and is surrounded by 47,000 gallons of sea water. The aquarium also has numerous interactive elements like; touching pools and educational demonstrations that will keep visitors of all ages entertained and occupied.

There are also numerous hiking trails as well as biking trails for those looking to explore the area. Tourists must also take a boat ride along Scheveningen’s coast line for breathtaking views of the surroundings.

Since it is only one of the eight districts in The Hague, there are numerous attractions outside of Scheveningen that are also worth visiting.

Duinrell Amusement Park located just outside Scheveningen is the perfect attraction for those with kids. The park is said to be home to the largest tropical water paradise in the world. It also houses cable cars, roller coasters, swimming pools and numerous other fun rides and attractions for thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. 

Nearby Airports

Scheveningen is located close to both of The Netherland’s major airport. The nearest airport to Scheveningen is Rotterdam The Hague Airport. This airport offers international flights and is located about 23 kilometres from the center of Scheveningen. The other airport located nearby is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is situated approximately 45 kilometres from Scheveningen.

Halal Restaurants

There is one prominent Halal restaurant in Scheveningen, namely Topkapi Restaurant. This restaurant is said to serve Halal certified Turkish, Mediterranean and Arabic dishes. Located on Kurhaus Square, Topkapi Restaurant is within walking distance of several popular attractions. While here, Muslim tourists can also make inquiries regarding other restaurants serving Halal food in Scheveningen.

Mosques

There are no known mosques in Scheveningen. There are however three mosques in the other districts of The Hague namely; Mobarak Mosque, Mescidi Aksa Mosque and As-Soennah Mosque. Muslim tourists will therefore have to offer their prayers in the hotel room, when possible.
