Istanbul Airport (IATA: IST, ICAO: LTFM) is the primary international gateway to Turkey and one of the most significant aviation hubs in the world. Located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of Istanbul, it is the largest airport in Turkey and the largest privately-owned airport globally. In 2024, it handled over 80 million passengers, making it the second-busiest airport in Europe after London Heathrow and the seventh-busiest worldwide.

On 6 April 2019, Istanbul Airport officially replaced Atatürk Airport as the city’s main hub for scheduled passenger flights. With this transition, the IATA code IST was transferred to the new airport, cementing its role as the central hub for Turkish Airlines and a major connection point between Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Terminals

Istanbul Airport currently has one massive terminal building, which is the largest terminal in the world under a single roof. This main terminal is divided into five concourses (A–E), serving both domestic and international flights.

Prayer Facilities

Prayer rooms are spread throughout the airport for easy access:

• International Terminal: Near gates A1, A4, A5, B10, D3, and F9; also in Area F close to shops like Swarovski and Etro, and near baggage claim areas.
• Domestic Terminal: Across the food court terrace, near Simit Sarayı, and close to gates G1 and G5.
• Arrivals & Departures: Located near baggage claim belts (e.g., Belt 16 and Belt 48), next to customs offices, and in transfer areas near visa control.
• Parking Areas: Facilities are also available in the Yellow Car Park for travelers arriving by car.
